Mouse, Moon and Susan, the artist.

Mouse and Moon - The idea for name 'Mouse and Moon' originated in South Africa a few years ago after Susan completed an 'Art from within' course during which meditation, relaxation and discussion were a few of the techniques used to draw inspiration from 'within' to create individual art.

The image of the moon seen at the top left hand corner of the web pages is a copy of the original art work created during this course. The leader of the course interpreted the picture in her own way saying that it is as though someone/something is waiting to emerge, the moon is constant ever changing but always there, the little mouse (like the child within) timid, shy waiting to shine and be noticed.  A bit like a fairytale - dreamlike feelings from which wishes are born waiting to come true.

We feel that the MOON signifies stability in life as the moon controls so many aspects of our daily lives and the MOUSE so small like us compared to the universe but we are still very important as individuals in the whole scheme in this cycle of our lives. Susan believes that if all we are able to do in this life is to bring joy and peace to least one person and help them smile, then we have succeeded in making a difference for the better.

About Susan, the Artist.....

'Barika' (A fabric sculpure by Susan)

Susan was born in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, lived in South Africa before moving to England where she now lives in Shropshire. As a self-taught artist Susan uses her own life experiences and inspirational thoughts to influence her various mediums of art work. Susan is on a continuous creative journey, starting out as a talented painter, then finding success as ceramicist, her latest art medium reveals her as a highly gifted sculptor – with something of the fashion designer thrown in.

Early 2006 - Susan began working with fabric to express serenity in uniquely individual elegant sculptural figures Susan continues creating wonderfully graceful individually elegant sculptural forms which are draped in fabric to show flowing movement and beauty of form aspiring to touch and relate tp the beautiful inner self within each of us. Each sculpture has an individuality and presence all of their own. These unique sculptural pieces are quietly gaining great popularity as an entirely new form of indoor or outdoor sculpture.

This form of sculpture allows Susan complete freedom of expression so that the vibrant statues portray a sense of being alive. Her creations include elegant and tranquil female figures, family groupings, mother and daughter sculptures, as well as more tongue-in-cheek pieces. is an additional outlet for my Piscean ebbs and flows and brings me to new dimensions in creative explosions!

Each piece is made individually, starting with just an idea, the statue evolves from the raw metal framework and develops in character as it is created. The completed sculpture is fluid, elegant and alive; some pieces full of movement and vitality, others are serene and tranquil, however, each has its own name and unique character as no two can be created identical. The handmade creations offer a unique alternative and interesting contrast to more traditional sculpture and statuary. Susan’s fabric sculptures are a new innovative and exciting form of décor for the home, garden and corporate environment.

As an artist, she hopes that her work will touch peoples’ emotions, as well as their decorators’ eye. At shows people react with a smile which Susan feels is a wonderful response, as she believes art should have the power to make people internally happy.

Susan generally works creating sculptures for shows but can be commissioned to create an individual piece for homes, gardens or corporate environment.

The Garden and Craft shows at which Susan exhibits she will often find that a statue will relate to an individual in a meaningful personal capacity which is very rewarding and more reasons to continue creating these statues. The statues seem to bring a smile to the faces of strangers and perhaps touch a part of their inner being in an enlightening or perhaps comforting way.

Through Mouse and Moon Susan would like to encourage and develop the appreciation of colour and form in our every day lives, in our emotions and feelings, in our surroudings and the way in which nature and art affects our inner and outer self.
